The irony in today's real estate market is this:

According to the most recent home mortgage lending statistics for the greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area, only 66% of all home purchase loans in 2006 originated (were funded).  That means that despite all time low interest rates, nearly 40% of all local mortgage applications were denied, withdrawn, closed for incompleteness, or the mortgage terms were not found suitable to prospective buyers.  This statistic does not even include the individuals who want to become home owners but haven't applied for a mortgage because they don't believe they can even qualify.
